— The organization that built the others —

SSPS isn't just another AIL agency. It's where most of them came from.

SSPS is the largest organization inside American Income Life, and over the last two decades it has produced the majority of AIL's top-performing teams. When you join us, you inherit that playbook, that track record, and that bench of mentorship — not a sub-sub-agency three layers removed from the people who built this thing.

American Income Life is a legal-reserve life insurance company founded in 1951 in Waco, Texas. For seventy-plus years, AIL has specialized in one thing: providing supplemental benefits — whole life, accident, hospital indemnity — to working-class families through partnerships with labor unions, credit unions, and professional associations.

That's the difference. AIL doesn't compete for cold leads on Facebook. The company partners directly with over 30,000 unions and associations whose members have already requested benefit information as part of their group's member services. When you sit down on a Zoom call with a family, they've already raised their hand. Your job is to understand what they need and recommend the right coverage. That's it.

AIL is licensed in all 50 states, Washington D.C., Canada, and New Zealand, and has an A (Excellent) financial strength rating from A.M. Best. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Globe Life Inc. (NYSE: GL).

The Opportunity

Transparent numbers. No mystery.

Most recruiting pitches dodge the money question. We lead with it. Here's what our full-time, fully-committed first-year agents actually earn, and where it comes from.

$72k$100k
Typical first-year earnings for full-time, fully-committed agents. Individual results vary based on effort, consistency, and coachability.
01

Advance commissions on new policies

The core of your first-year income. You're paid on policies you write for families who requested info through union partnerships.

02

Renewals — year after year

Residual income every year your clients keep their policies on the books. This is the long game and it compounds.

03

Team overrides (optional)

As you promote and build your own team, you earn on their production. No pressure to recruit — agents who focus purely on personal production do great.

Income figures cited are illustrative based on agency data and individual results vary based on effort, experience, licensing status, and other factors. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Agents operate as independent contractors, not employees of DJ Vandermeer AIL or American Income Life Insurance Company.

Why This Team

Six reasons to pick us over any other AIL recruiter.

There are a lot of AIL recruiters online. Most of them are good people. But not all AIL teams are built the same, and the one you join shapes the next five years of your career.

/ 01

SSPS heritage

You're plugged directly into the largest organization in AIL — not a sub-branch three layers removed from the people actually running it.

/ 02

Warm leads, always

Every family you talk to has already raised their hand. You will never cold call, buy lead lists, or pitch strangers on social media. Ever.

/ 03

Real mentorship

Direct 1-on-1 time with DJ, three agency-wide training calls every week, and field training with a producing manager. You are not handed a PDF and told good luck.

/ 04

Licensing hand-held

We walk you through pre-licensing course selection, exam prep, fingerprints, and state application. Most agents pass on the first try.

/ 05

100% remote, 46 states

Zoom calls, not door-knocking. Work from anywhere with a laptop, a quiet room, and reliable internet. We currently recruit in all states except CA, MA, MN, and NY.

/ 06

Real renewals, forever

You get paid on renewals every year your policies stay on the books. Most agents see residuals become meaningful income by year two.

The Fit Check

Is this actually for you?

We'd rather you self-select out now than waste both our time in an intro call. Read both columns honestly.

This is for you if Yes

  • You want uncapped income tied to your actual effort, not a salary band and a title ladder.
  • You're coachable — you can be told "do it this way" without arguing for a week.
  • You're comfortable on video calls and can hold a conversation with a stranger who needs help.
  • You can commit 30–40 focused hours a week during your first 90 days.
  • You're willing to get properly licensed and follow state and carrier compliance rules to the letter.
  • You like the idea of being paid to help families not leave their kids in a bad spot.

This isn't for you if No

  • You want a guaranteed W2 salary and benefits from day one. This is 1099 commission work.
  • You want to "try it on the side" for a couple hours a week and see what happens.
  • You're not willing to invest ~$150–$300 in your state licensing course and exam fees.
  • You're looking for a passive income opportunity with no client-facing work.
  • You've decided in advance that insurance is sleazy and you're just here to prove it.
  • You can't handle being told no a few times in a row without taking it personally.
How It Works

From application to first commission.

Five steps, fully transparent. No "we'll tell you on the call." Here's the whole process before you even apply.

i

Apply & watch

Fill out the form below. You'll receive our company overview video to watch and a short survey at the end. Takes about 20 minutes total.

~20 min
ii

Follow-up call

After you've watched the overview and completed the survey, we schedule a follow-up call to answer your questions and see if we're a mutual fit.

~20 min
iii

Group interview

If it's a good fit, you're invited to a final group interview with the team. This is where both sides commit — or part ways with no hard feelings.

Final step
iv

Get licensed

We help you enroll in your state pre-licensing course, prep for the exam, and handle paperwork. Licensing takes 1–4 weeks depending on your state and exam scheduling.

1–4 weeks
v

Field training

Once licensed, you start field training with a manager — real appointments, real families. Lasts 1–3 weeks. Average time to first sale: 7–10 days. Then you're released to run your own schedule.

7–10 days to first sale
What Your First 90 Days Look Like

Week-by-week, no fog.

One of the most common reasons people hesitate on an opportunity like this is simple: they can't picture what next Tuesday looks like. Here's what next Tuesday looks like.

Weeks 1–4

Get licensed

Pre-licensing coursework, exam prep, state exam, fingerprints, background check, E&O setup, and contract paperwork. Training doesn't start until you've passed — this is step one. Timeline depends on your state and when you can schedule the exam.

Weeks 4–7

Field training

Once licensed, you're paired with a manager for 1–3 weeks of field training on real warm-lead appointments. Average time to your first sale in your name: 7–10 days. Three agency-wide training calls every week to sharpen your pitch.

Weeks 7–10

Independence

Released from training. You set your own schedule, run your own appointments, and manage your own pipeline. Weekly 1-on-1s with DJ continue. Income shifts from "first few commissions" to "consistent weekly pay."

Weeks 10–13

Momentum

You know your numbers. Renewals start showing up. Pipeline is predictable. If you want to build a team, this is where that conversation starts. If you'd rather focus on personal production, you grind personal production.

Questions You're Already Asking

Answered, plainly.

Is this an MLM or pyramid scheme? +
No. You sell real life insurance products from a 70-year-old, A-rated carrier to families who have requested benefit information through their union or association. You are paid commission on policies you write and renewals on policies that stay on the books. Team overrides exist if you choose to build a team — but they're optional, and many of our agents earn six figures purely from personal production.
Is this W2 or 1099? +
1099 independent contractor. You are not an employee of DJ Vandermeer AIL or American Income Life. You run your own book of business, set your own schedule, and are responsible for your own taxes. Most agents work with an accountant in year one to handle quarterly estimates.
Do I need experience in insurance or sales? +
No. Most of our top producers had zero insurance background before joining. What matters more is coachability, consistency, and the ability to have a real conversation with a real person. The playbook is teachable. Stubbornness is not.
How much does licensing cost? +
Typically between $150 and $300 total, depending on your state. That covers pre-licensing coursework, exam fees, and your state application. This is an out-of-pocket investment you make yourself — it's part of what separates people who actually follow through from people who don't.
Do I have to buy leads? +
No. Warm leads come through AIL's relationships with over 30,000 unions, credit unions, and associations. Families request benefit information as part of their group membership — you're following up with people who raised their hand. You never buy lead lists, run paid ads, or cold call.
How quickly will I actually earn something? +
Once you pass your state exam and start field training, the average time to your first sale in your name is 7–10 days. Licensing itself takes 1–4 weeks depending on your state and exam scheduling. So realistically, most agents write their first policy within 5–6 weeks of joining, and income becomes consistent by weeks 7–10.
Is it really 100% remote? +
Yes. Every appointment is over Zoom. Training, mentorship, and the three weekly agency training calls are all remote. You need a laptop, a webcam, reliable internet, and a quiet space. We have agents working from Phoenix, from small-town Alabama, from New Zealand.
Can I apply from any state? +
We currently recruit in all U.S. states except California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and New York. If you're in one of those four states, unfortunately we're unable to bring you on at this time. Everyone else — including international candidates in certain AIL markets — feel free to apply.
What if I fail the licensing exam? +
You retake it. Most states allow multiple retakes within a reasonable window. We'll help you target the areas you missed and prep again. In the meantime, you can still shadow team calls and learn the playbook.
Can I do this part-time? +
Technically yes, but the income figures on this page — $72k to $100k in year one — assume full-time, fully-committed effort. Part-time agents earn proportionally less and typically take longer to hit consistency. If you're trying to "dabble," this isn't the right fit.
Why should I join your team instead of another AIL recruiter? +
Three reasons. First, SSPS is the largest organization inside AIL and the origin of most of the other top AIL organizations — which means you're in the room where the playbook gets written, not three layers removed from it. Second, direct 1-on-1 mentorship with DJ, not a drip-email onboarding. Third, we lead with transparent numbers on this very page. No bait-and-switch on the call.
